All students from the EU, EEA or Switzerland living in Denmark for more than 3 months need to have an EU Residence Permit. You have to register for both an EU Residence Permit and we strongly advise you to obtain a CPR-number as well.
The process of registering for an EU residence permit is as follows:
- The very first thing you have to do upon your arrival to Denmark is to get a stamped and signed proof of enrolment from the IT University of Copenhagen.
*You have to go to the Student Affairs and Programmes Front Desk to get such a document. You need this proof of enrolment in the further process of applying for an EU Residence Permit.
*Due to COVID-19 campus is currently closed for all. Write to sap@itu.dk and request a proof of enrolment, stamped and signed.
- Secondly, you must apply for your EU Residence Permit.
How to apply:
- Print and complete the OD1 application form
- Prepare the required documents as listed in this checklist
- Submit your application in person to SIRI (the Danish Agency for Recruitment and Integration)

It is a good idea to get your paperwork done at SIRI as quickly as possible.
Apply for a Civil Registration Number (CPR number) for Nationals from the EU, EEA or Switzerland
The CPR number is a personal 10-digit identity number. It is issued on a yellow health card, which entitles you to free healthcare in Denmark. The contact information of your assigned doctor will be on the yellow health card. Furthermore, you need your CPR number when dealing with authorities in Denmark.
If you stay in Denmark for more than 6 months, Danish law requires that you apply for a civil registration number (CPR number). If your stay in Denmark is between 3 to 6 months, you are not required to apply for a CPR number but the CPR number will grant you access to different services. In all cases, you must bring your blue European health insurance card to ensure that you are covered.
How to apply for a CPR number
Apply at the International House website. Once your application is approved, you will receive an e-mail with an invitation to collect your CPR number at one of the following locations.
