Illness

If you are ill for a longer period of time during a semester, remember to contact The Study and Career Guidance. The Study and Career Guidance can help you get an overview of your situation and possibilities.

It is important to apply in good time and to be able to document the disease on time. We cannot usually approve retrospective documentation.

If you did not have the opportunity to apply while you were sick, it must be documented that you were unable to contact us in a timely manner due to hospitalisation or similar.

Study on special terms

You can apply to study on special terms, which will mean you are granted an exemption to cancel a registration for a course or project and its subsequent exam. Use this option if you have been unable to attend enough classes or learn sufficiently to pass the exam.

How to apply

You apply using the form: Application for exemption
You also need to send along a provisional study plan

You describe your illness and how it is affecting your studies. It is always a good idea to consult with the Student advisors when ill for a longer period. They can guide you in applying for the exemption and they can also help you with the provisional study plan which is needed in order to show how you will organise your studies in the long run.

You must enclose a medical certificate for documentation.

You send it all in an email to sap@itu.dk.

If you are awarded an exemption of this type for an elective or a specialisation course, and if you have not used an exam attempt for the course previously, you are also exempted from the rule about binding registration for courses. This means that you are free to choose another course in a later semester. You can of course also choose the same course.

If you cannot meet the registration requirement in the coming semester

You can apply for an exemption from the registration requirement, if as a consequence of your illness you cannot meet the registration requirement in the coming semester. Instead of cancelling a registration that has already been made, as in the option above, you apply for an exemption from the registration requirement (the requirement stating that you need to register for 22,5 ECTS each semester)

How to apply

You apply using the form: Application for exemption
You also need to send along a provisional study plan

You must enclose a medical certificate that states that you cannot expect to recover from the illness and are therefore unable to study in the semester in question.Your doctor can also recommend that you study part time.

It is always a good idea to consult with the Student advisors when ill for a longer period. They can guide you in applying for the exemption and they can also help you with the study plan which is needed in order to show how you will organise your studies in the long run.

You send it all in an email to sap@itu.dk.

Illness and the requirements for progression

The requirements for progression on your programme determine how many exams you must pass in order to maintain your enrollment and how much time you have to complete the programme. These requirements remain even though you are exempted for one or more exam registrations or from the registration requirement due to illness.

If you will not be able to meet the progression requirements, you must apply for an exemption from these as well.

Read more about the requirements for progression.

Special conditions for the exam and Special Pedagogical Support

If the university can remedy the inconvenience caused by your illness by awarding special conditions at an exam, this may also be an option. Read more about special conditions at exams. If you are chronically ill you may also be eligible for Special Pedagocical Support (SPS).
