Litterature Search

Litterature search

Literature and texts are two of the cornerstones of being a student at an academic institution like the IT University. All courses have a number of texts you will read during the semester but you will also have to search for literature on your own; for instance, when you are writing an exam paper.

All academic work is based on the use of references to previous work, theories, and methods. It is important that you learn how to work with literature and texts during your studies.

More about litterature search

You should be able to

  • Search for and find relevant literature
  • Evaluate the literature and take a critical stance towards it
  • Use and apply the literature to your own academic work to support your argumentation
  • Cite and reference literature correctly in your work

Searching for litterature

When you are searching for literature, you need to know what to look for and how to assess the relevance and importance of texts.

Aside from books and texts you are presented with during a course, you may need to search for additional literature at some point during your studies. Depending on the requirements set up by your lecturers, there can be different reasons for searching for literature.

  • The reasons could be:
To supply you with background information about the subject you are studying
  • To get an introduction to concepts or other specialized knowledge or results through theoretical texts
  • To find literature about the methods and approach you are using to study your subject

Finding litterature

Start by looking at the reference list in your course books and compendiums that deal with the same subject you are studying.
