Oral Exam

The oral exam will be held no later than 4 weeks after the submission deadline. LearnIT will be updated with the exact time and place of the oral exam.

On the day of the exam, make sure that you arrive in due time before the exam. 

Length of oral exams

Projects
Oral exams following ordinary projects last around 40 minutes per student, including the examiners’ voting and feedback to you. This also applies to the bachelor project.

The Master thesis
The oral exam for the master thesis last around 50 minutes per student, including the examiners’ voting and feedback.

Your graduation date is the day of the oral exam. Read more about graduation and the diploma.

Formal requirements
Apart from the length of the exam, there are no formal requirements to the structure and content of the oral exam. You should always turn to your supervisor / the examiner, to find out which elements the exam will consist of and what will be expected of you.

 

Structure and content of oral exams for group projects

The oral group exam in a group project must be conducted in one the five ways described in this document. This is to ensure that it is possible to give each student an individual assessment. The group must choose between one of the five possibilities and let the supervisor know.

The group shares the responsibility for the exam assignment. 

Structure and content of oral exams in an individual project

Apart from the length of the exam, there are no formal requirements to the structure and content of oral exams for individual projects. You should always talk to the examiner, so that you know which elements the exam will consist of and what will be expected of you.

Oral exams are public

Oral examinations are public, but the Board of Studies at ITU has decided that examinations will take place behind closed doors on the examinee’s request. Moreover, the Board of Studies may in particular cases decide that an examination is not public, and specify who may be present during the examination.

Only the internal and external examiners may be present during the evaluation. The Board of Studies may, however, decide that future examiners may be present at the evaluation as well.

Students are not allowed to do any kind of auditory or visual recording during the exam.
