About group exams

The group format

When doing a project you can choose to do it by yourself or as a group project.

Even if you registered for it alone, you can change your mind and have us join your project with a fellow student.

Likewise you can choose to split your group project if for some reason you want to stop collaborating.

It is important either way that you write sap@itu.dk to inform the exam team, and that you have your supervisor(s) in the loop about it.

Details related to project group exams

Submission

Group submission

Doing a group project involves group work resulting in submission of a shared written project.

Parts of the project will be a joint contribution and for other parts each student can be responsible.

The project submission will always be followed by an oral exam, and therefore it is not required to list each students individual contributions.

The examiners will establish how each student has contributed to the group work during the oral exam.

Oral

Oral group exam

The oral group exam in a group project must be conducted in one of five ways described in this document: five different exam forms.

This is to ensure that it is possible to give each student an individual assessment.

The group must choose between one of the five possibilities and let the supervisor know. The group shares the responsibility for the exam assignment.

Assess

How are you asessed?

Even when you work in a group, you are assessed individually based on your own performance.

For group submissions followed by an oral exam, each student will receive a final grade based on the written submission, and the oral exam.

How long is an oral group exam?
For group exams, the exam usually lasts 15-20 minutes per student, including assessment and feedback.

Group splits and exams

Group difficulties

Even though working in a group has a lot of positive gains to it, for some it can prove to be difficult.

If you are in a group and you experience difficulties, please visit Working in groups where the Study and Career Guidance has put together loads of tips and information to hopefully overcome the difficulties.

If for some reason it seems hard to continue in the group check out if a split even is possible.
