Specialisation and DADIU

Jump to: DADIU

During the course of your programme, you have to choose and pass a specialisation. This gives you a more distinctive profile and it is an opportunity to point your academic profile in the direction you wish to go after graduation.

You can choose one of the specialisations in the table below, or you can apply for an individual specialisation (see below).

For how to register, go to Study Administration / Registration

The specialisation
A specialisation amounts to a total of 30 ECTS credits, and consists of three specific modules:

Module 1 is a 7.5 ECTS course that you attend during the second semester.
Module 2 is a 15 ECTS course that you attend during the third semester.
Module 3 is a 7.5 ECTS course that you attend during the third semester.

Predetermined Specialisation Part 1 - 7.5 ECTS - KGPSPLG1KU
Psychology of Play and Games
Part 2 - 15 ECTS - KGPLLAB1KU
Play Lab
Part 3 - 7.5 ECTS - KGADTGS1KU
Advanced Topics in Games Studies

You register for the courses - not the specialisation

You cannot register for a specialisation. Instead, you must sign up for and pass the courses on the specialisation.

Individual Specialisation

If the specialisation options do not meet your specific demands or ambitions, you can apply for an individual specialisation.

An individual specialisation must meet the same official requirements as the predetermined specialisation. As the specialisation normally leads to the thesis, you need to ensure a progression within the individual specialisation. A specialisation is in total 30 ECTS.

DADIU - All Games Students can apply

DADIU (The National Academy of Digital, Interactive Entertainment) educates students in all aspects of producing a computer game. It is a collaboration between universities and art schools across Denmark, and the education is coordinated by the National Film School of Denmark.

DADIU is an individual specialisation, which means that you have to apply for admission even though you are already accepted on the Games programme at ITU.

The DADIU individual specialisation consists of two courses:

DADIU Part 1 - 15 ECTS
DADIU Curriculum
Part 2 - 15 ECTS
DADIU Project

You can find the course details in the Course catalogue in LearnIT (search under all courses)

The specialisation is only available in the autumn, and will cover all of your third semester courses. As the DADIU courses are 30 ECTS in total you cannot take more than 7,5 ECTS at the same time, e.g. if you are following courses for your third exam attempt.

Study Structure

During the first four weeks, you will get both a theoretical and a practical starting point for developing computer games. You learn about the important aspects of game development and are introduced to the various roles and responsibilities of the needed competencies. During October, you have the opportunity to focus on a specific aspect in game development that relates to your own specific competencies. The DADIU Curriculum consists of a series of individual courses organized by DADIU.

You spend the last two months of the DADIU semester on developing and completing a real computer game. Each team of approximately 15 students will have a production room with computers and software available.
