What is the status of the façade project?
First, it is important to make clear that ITU is a tenant in this building, so we are not the ones managing the renovation. The Danish Building and Property Agency is in charge. They have sent the project out to tender and selected a contractor, and we have just had our first meeting with the contractor and begun planning the project.
What disruptions should we prepare for?
The first to notice something will be those using the car park. A temporary site cabin area will be set up on the gravel section of the car park.
We do not yet know when the individual areas will be affected, but a facade renovation of this scale will inevitably cause disruptions. It will be noisy when windows are removed and replaced!
Even with good planning and close involvement, a renovation of this size cannot be carried out without mistakes or unexpected issues, so everyone should be prepared to be relatively flexible. We appreciate everyone’s patience.
What do we gain from the facade renovation?
To begin with, the building is leaking in several places, which is neither sustainable nor acceptable. The renovation will give us a watertight building and, in addition, we have secured approval to install external solar shading on the windows. This will reduce heat and improve the indoor climate in offices and classrooms, particularly on the sunny side of the building.
In other words, the renovation was unavoidable, and now we also get solar shading as part of the package — something worth appreciating.
When will we start to notice the project at ITU?
The plan is to start the project in the second quarter of 2026. We are planning the most intensive part of the renovation to take place during the summer holiday and the period immediately after, to minimise disruptions to teaching and exams. SAP will also be involved in the planning to help avoid unnecessary interference with teaching activities and examination periods.
We will keep everyone informed through ReadIT. Our aim is to make the process as smooth and constructive as possible for everyone at ITU.
