The group exam

Option or requirement
The group exam format is used for oral exams, exam submissions only or exam submissions followed by an oral exam.

For either of these exam types the course manager can choose if you are required to attend as a group or if the group set-up is voluntarily, leaving you the option to attend the exam individually.

The option or requirement can change
If for some reason you or your group fail or do not attend for the ordinary exam, the format might change for the re-exam.

The requirement to attend as a group doesn't always apply for the re-exam.

It will be stated in the course description what your options are and if the format for the ordinary exam will stay fixed or will change for the re-exam.

Why do group work?

Working in a group and doing groupwork is in the DNA of ITU.

It is a great way not only to learn and acquire knowledge, but also to develop skills on collaboration and articulation of knowledge, as well as it can help your motivation and obligation. 

Minimum group size?

The minimum number of students in a group is two. The maximum number of students in a group is defined in the course description.

The group exam formats

Option or requirement
The group exam format is used for oral exams, exam submissions only or exam submissions followed by an oral exam.
For either of these exam types the course manager can choose if the format is a group set-up or a mixed set-up. A mixed set-up lets you decide whether you want to attend as a group or as an individual.

Different set-ups:
Your exam might be a group exam (G) for both the ordinary and the re-exam or it might be a group exam for the ordinary and a mixed exam for the re-exam. Or it might be mixed for both the ordinary and the re-exam. It is stated in the course description what exam form and variation that has been chosen for your exam.

Submission

Group submission

Doing a group submission involves group work resulting in submission of a shared written group assignment.

Parts of the assignment will be a joint contribution and for other parts it can be important to address each responsible student.

Remember to read the course description since it contains these informations to be aware of.

Also if necessary ask your course manager for guidelines.

How is your oral exam conducted
The oral group exam following a course group assignment must be conducted in one of these five different ways.

The exact option for your course is described in the course description.

How long is an oral group exam?
For group exams, the exam usually lasts 15-30 minutes per student, including assessment and feedback, but check the course descriptioon for all details.

Assess

How are you asessed?

As participants in a group exam (assignment?), you all receive an individual grade based on an assessment of your individual performance.

For group submissions followed by an oral exam, you will all receive a final grade based on the written submission, and the oral exam in combination.
