Dear new MSc DS student,
Welcome to the Master of Science in Data Science at the IT University of Copenhagen! You were admitted through a competitive selection process, which reflects strong potential and a solid foundation. You belong to a group of excellent students, and your admission is the beginning of a journey to further develop your knowledge, skills, and judgement.
Our programme is built on a clear principle: deep technical competence and societal responsibility are key and must develop together. You will work with statistics, algorithms, and modern data science methods, and you will engage with the research and applications that drive future advances in information technology. Because data science drives decisions that affect society at scale, we treat ethical awareness and accountability as core engineering competencies.
By the time you graduate, the data science landscape will have shifted rapidly. Manual analysis and routine pipeline coding are becoming less central bottlenecks. As more execution becomes automated, your professional value will increasingly lie in problem formulation, critical evaluation, and reliable operationalisation. Your focus will likely transition toward causal and statistical reasoning about data, orchestrating complex models, and taking responsibility for outcomes and impact.
