Listen Up! #7 Art, Technology & Philosophy
In this seventh Listen Up! session at AIR Lab, visual artist Jonas Pihl and sound artist Tao Højgaard present two related artworks exploring how ideas from thinkers such as Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari can become operative through music, painting, and electronic instruments.

The Deleuzian Music Box is a collaboration between Højgaard and Pihl that reimagines the traditional music box as a small chaosmos. Opening the box reveals a painting and initiates an evolving musical world in which rhythms, harmonies, textures, and silences continually form new relationships. Music and painting retain their artistic autonomy while becoming part of a shared perceptual experience.
A Thousand Plateaus under the Magnifying Glass is an electronic synthesizer and sequencer with an unusual limitation: it can only play Deleuze and Guattari's book. Through a magnifying glass, the text is encountered as its characters, words, and grammatical structures become rhythm, melody, and harmony. The instrument explores how writing can acquire new sensory capacities through music, transforming the experience of reading and listening.
Through listening, reading, and conversation with the artists, the session invites reflection on how philosophical thinking might unfold through the materials, structures, and sensory possibilities of art itself.
