Full-time Studies

You must register for study activities corresponding to 30 ECTS each semester.

As a maximum you can register for study activities corresponding to 37,5 ECTS in total in one semester.

Exemption from the registration requirement

If you cannot meet the registration requirement for a future semester, you must apply for an exemption from the rule.

How to apply

Fill out the form: Exemption from the registration requirement and send it to sap@itu.dk.

You must attach a study plan for your entire programme to your application.

The Student Counsellors can help you fill out the study plan.
Find a template here (word or pdf).

Please go to Special Circumstances for more detailed information: Exemptions or How to apply for an exemption.

Are you taking the last courses before the thesis?
If you have less than 30 ECTS left on your programme besides the thesis, you are exempted from the rule and you do not need to apply for an exemption from the registration requirement.

FAQ

Yes, you can actually register for 7,5 ECTS less in any subsequent semester on your programme, as long as your total amount of credits is still 30 ECTS pr semester. It will mean that you register for only 22,5 ECTS in the following semester.

You cannot register for just 22,5 in a semester, based on your desire to register for 37,5 in the next.

If you do not meet your registration requirement after the course seats have been assigned, Student Affairs and Programmes will assign study activities to you.

This is done before the semester starts and you will be notified by email.

Student Affairs and Programmes will assign study activities in this order:

  1. Mandatory activities
  2. Choice between mandatory activities. Some programmes have modules with a mandatory choice between two study activities. If the students lacks one of these modules, the choice between the two study activities will be decided by drawing lots.
  3. Specialisation courses
  4. Electives. If the student lacks elective modules on the programme, he/she will be registered for a project.

In the beginning of the semester, you can make changes to your registrations. Read more about: Changing a registration.

A Summer course will count as a part of the registration requirement.

If you have a pre-approval for a summer course at another university it can count as part of the requirement for either the autumn or the spring semester.

If you want it to count as part of the spring semester, you must apply for pre-approval before October 20 the previous year.

If you want it to count as part of the autumn semester, you must apply before April 20.

If you register for a summer course at ITU, it will count as part of the registration requirement for the autumn semester.
