According to the Act on the Educational Environment of Pupils and Students, all students on Danish universities are entitled to a good educational environment where the education takes place in a safe and sound way.
It is a legal requirement for all educational institutions to carry out an evaluation of the educational environment at least every third year and completing a written evaluation of the physical, psychological and aesthetic educational environment.
The evaluation must contain four elements:
- Charting of the physical, psychological and aesthetic educational environment
- A description and evaluation of possible problems
- Creating plans of action
- Guidelines for how to follow up on the plans of action
It is a requirement that students are involved in all four stages of the evaluation. Therefore the students share the responsibility of providing and sustaining a good educational environment.
You can read more about evaluations of educational environments on the Danish Centre for Educational Environment’s website: www.dcum.dk
The purpose of the evaluation is to uncover fields where the educational environment can be improved.
Student Affairs and Programmes at the IT-University coordinates the evaluation (e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org).
The students are represented by two educational environment representatives in the Infrastructure Group, and these representatives are selected by the political student organization StupIT.
At the IT-University the evaluation of the educational environment is considered a natural part of the course evaluations. Therefore evaluations of the educational environment are implemented in the course evaluations every semester, in the form of free text boxes.
Student Affairs and Programmes look thoroughly through the answers. The answers are categorised, analysed and sent to the relevant departments of the IT-University for comments. This includes e.g. the IT-department, Facilities Management, the Board of Directors and Student Affairs and Programmes a long with the study boards of the different educations.
Afterwards a report is made about planned initiatives to meet the students' feedback.
