Group exams

The group format

Option or requirement
Attending an exam as a group can be something you choose to do or something that is required for the exam by the course manager.

If a group exam is required it will be stated in the course description.

Which exam types allow for group exams?
Depending on the course, the group exam format is typically an exam submission only or an exam submission followed by an oral exam.

Written exam on premises are always individual.

Why do group work?

Working in a group and doing groupwork is in the DNA of ITU.

It is a great way not only to learn and acquire knowledge, but also to develop skills on collaboration and articulation of knowledge, as well as it can help your motivation and obligation.

Minimum group size?

All group exams require at least 2 students. The maximum group size is defined in the course description.

If your group work comes with difficulties you can contact The Study and Career Guidance for support or check out Working in groups.

Details related to group exams

Submission

Group submission

Doing a group submission involves group work resulting in submission of a shared written group assignment.

Parts of the assignment will be a joint contribution and for other parts it is important to address specificaly which student was responsible for which part.

If the submission is followed by an oral exam, it is not required to list each students individual contribution.

The examiners will establish how each student has contributed to the group work during the oral exam.

Remember to Form your group in advance in WISEflow by inviting / accepting the invitation.

Oral

Oral group exam

Oral group exams can differ by course. Common variations include:

Even when you work in a group, each student is assessed individually based on their own performance.

For group submissions followed by an oral exam, each student will receive a final grade based on the written submission, and the oral exam.

How long is an oral group exam?
For group exams, the exam usually lasts 15-20 minutes per student, including assessment and feedback, but check the course descriptioon for all details.

Group splits and exams

Group difficulties

Even though working in a group has a lot of positive gains to it, for some it can prove to be difficult.

If you are in a group and you experience difficulties, please visit Working in groups where the Study and Career Guidance has put together loads of tips and information to hopefully overcome the difficulties.

If for some reason it seems hard to continue in the group check out if a split even is possible.
