The registration requirement

A semester of full time studies corresponds to 30 ECTS. The study activities is everything you are registered for: all courses and all projects.

It is a requirement that you register for study activities corresponding to 22,5 ECTS each semester. (Starting from Spring 2023)

As a maximum you can register for study activities corresponding to 37,5 ECTS in total in one semester.

Structuring your studies (Starting from Spring 2023)
If you choose to register for less than 30 ECTS you need to be aware of the following:

  • The progression requirement outlines that you need to pass 45 ECTS each year. If you don't meet the progression requirement, you will need an exemption to continue your studies at ITU
  • You should also keep the SU study requirement in mind. If you don't meet this requirement, you will lose the right to receive SU.
  • Unlike previously Student Affairs and Programmes will not follow up on your registrations, which makes it essential for you to make sure they are correct.

Exemption from the registration requirement

If you cannot meet the registration requirement for a current or future semester, you must apply for an exemption from the rule.

How to apply

Fill out the 'Exemption form' and send it to sap@itu.dk.

You must attach a provisional study plan for your entire programme to your application.

The Student Counsellors can help you fill out the provisional study plan.

Please go to Exemptions or How to apply for an exemption for more detailed information.

Are you taking the last courses before the thesis?
If you have less than 22,5 ECTS left on your programme besides the thesis, you are exempted from the rule and you do not need to apply for an exemption from the registration requirement.
