Erasmus+

The Erasmus+ programme is an EU programme for students within all academic fields.

This page contains relevant information for studying abroad as an Erasmus+ student.

About Erasmus

ITU has been awarded with the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education, which makes it possible for ITU students to study abroad in Europe and to receive an Erasmus+ grant. Thus, if you apply for one of ITU's European partners universities (excluding Switzerland), you will be an Erasmus+ exchange student. Find a list over eligible countries here.

Note that

  • the duration of the stay is between 3 and 12 months
  • there must be an agreement between ITU and the receiving higher education institution

Requirements for an Erasmus+ study abroad

  • The courses taken at the Partner Institution can be fully transfered to your degree at ITU
  • You must complete a language assessment (see below)
  • You must fill in an Online Learning Agreement (see below)
  • You must sign a Grant Agreement (see below)
  • Make sure you are fully insured (see below)
  • Have the partner fill in a 'Certificate of Arrival and Departure' (see below)
  • Fill in an Erasmus+ report (see below)

Requirements - Before Exchange

You need to make sure you are fully covered regarding health, personal liability and accidents when you leave Denmark. You are responsible for your own insurance coverage.

As an Erasmus+ student, you must acquire The European Health Insurance Card (blåt sygesikringsbevis) as a minimum. Note that the card is not an insurance, e.g. it does not cover repatriation in case of serious illness, so it is important to look into a private insurance too.

Also note that

  • If you have insurance already, you should check the extent of your insurances. It is often necessary to take out additional insurances (concerning both health insurance and public liability insurance/household insurance).
  • In some cases, the host university require you to take out a specific insurance. It is important that you are aware of what that insurance covers and if it is necessary to take additional insurance.
  • If you deregister in the CPR register, you risk being left of the public healthcare system for a period. Contact your local municipality before you deregister to learn if you are covered from the first day you are back in Denmark.

All Erasmus+ students nominated for an Erasmus+ partner must complete a free-of-charge compulsory language placement test in the language you will attend courses in at the partner university.

You will receive the link to the test via email, and you must complete the test before your stay commences. The test is online-based, takes 30-40 minutes to complete and it covers gramma, vocabulary and understanding covered in app. 50 questions.

The result will not prevent you from taking part in the Erasmus+ mobility.

Available is also free language courses and linguistic support provided by the Erasmus+ programme.

The Erasmus+ Online Learning Agreement (OLA) is a contract between you, the host university and ITU covering the courses you will follow abroad.

Once you have a pre-approval from ITU, you must fill in the OLA. Though, in some cases the partner university requires the OLA before you have your pre-approval from ITU, e.g., as a part of the application process to the partner university. In these cases you have to create the OLA with the courses you find likely to be approved by ITU and make changes to the OLA later on if necessary.

When you have signed the OLA, the system will forward it to the ITU Erasmus+ Coordinator and then to the partner university for signatures. It must be signed by all three parties before the stay abroad commences.

Note that

  • your pre-approval from ITU counts. If there are any changes to courses, you have to re-apply for a pre-approval at ITU and update the OLA. There is no automatic link between the processes.
  • you are required to complete the courses in the OLA.
  • a few partner universities have not yet implemented the OLA but use the non-digital version of a learning agreement.

For more detailed guidance in filling in the OLA, please see this document.

When the Online Learning Agreement (OLA) and the language assessment have been completed (see above), you will receive a grant agreement via email from the Erasmus+ Coordinator. You must read the agreement and sign it.

Read more about the grant below.

Requirements - During Exchange

During the Erasmus+ exchange you must make sure that the Partner fills in the form 'Certificate of Attendance'. This form confirms your physical presence at the Partner institutions.

You will receive the form via email from the ITU Erasmus+ Coordinator.

Requirements - After Exchange

After the Erasmus+ exchange, you will be asked to fill in an Erasmus+ Report provided by the Erasmus+ Programme.

You will receive a autogenerated email shortly after your stay ends.

Erasmus Grant

ITU receives funding from the European Commission as a part of the Erasmus+ programme to give to ITU students going abroad on one of ITU's Erasmus+ partners. All students going on exchange to an Erasmus+ partner are eligible for an Erasmus+ grant. The grant is a supplement to your expenses during your stay abroad.

Note that

  • students usually receives about 490-540 EUR per month. The size of the grant depends on the country you are travelling to, the length of your stay (physical presence), and the number of ITU students applying to an Erasmus+ partner.
  • when you apply for an Erasmus+ exchange at an Erasmus+ partner university you automatically apply for a grant.
  • you can receive the Erasmus+ grant for a maximum of 12 months during your bachelor degree and a maximum of 12 months during your master degree
  • you must fulfil the requirements before, during and after the Erasmus+ exchange. Otherwise, you will be asked to pay back the Erasmus+ grant.

Fewer Opportunities

The Erasmus+ programme offers a top-up grant for students with fewer opportunities. The top-up is 250 EUR each month.

Eligibility criteria

  • Students with disabilities, chronic illnesses or conditions requiring treatment. Both physical and mental conditions are included
  • Students with a civic duty or personnel of the reserve
  • Care takers or resource persons (Parent, adoptive parent, care taker for a diseased family member, mentor or support person)

The Fewer Opportunities top-up grant is an extra grant. Thus, you will still receive the normal Eramus+ grant.

Please, contact Eva Hauerslev (emsh@itu.dk) for further information.

Inclusion Support

If you have expenses related to your special needs that exceed the top-up amount for fewer opportunities (see above) there might be an option to apply for extra funding via the Erasmus+ programme.

Students who have extra expenses in connection with participation in mobility activities due to their physical or mental health condition can apply to have the specific expenses covered.

Please, contact Eva Hauerslev (emsh@itu.dk) for further information.

Green Travel

If you choose to travel green to/and from destination for the exchange, you are eligible for a top-up of 50 EUR plus up to four extra days of individual support for travel days. Note that more than half of the return travel must be green to receive the top up.

The Green Travel option depends on the means of transportation from DK to the destination (or the other way or both ways), and means can be bus, train or car-pooling. Note that ferry is not considered as travelling green.

The Green Travel is an extra grant. Thus, you will still receive the normal Eramus+ grant.

When the Online Learning Agreement (OLA) and the language assessment have been completed (see above), you will receive a grant agreement via email from the Erasmus+ Coordinator. You must read the agreement and sign it.

First instalment of the grant will be 70 % of the full grant. The remaining 30 % will be paid out after the stay when the final requirements are completed and the exact semester dates are known. If the semester dates change from the ones stated in the grant agreement, the grant will be adjusted accordingly.

If you already know early on that the semester dates are different from the grant agreement, reach out to the Erasmus+ Coordinator.
