Help Rued and Valborg with the digitalisation of the Langgården farm by solving one fresh programming task every day, primarily aimed at beginning programmers.

Programmeringshøst – “programming harvest” – consists of twenty programming tasks, one per weekday.

Programmeringshøst is open to everybody at ITU – teachers and students alike – across study lines and programmes, but is particularly aimed at newcomers who are just learning to program.

Programmeringshøst consists of a daily programming task, published every weekday from Monday 13 September to Friday 8 October 2021 at 6 AM. The tasks are published on the itu.kattis.com platform. 

We follow the challenges encountered by Rued and Valborg Langgaard in their efforts to digitalise their farm – windmill operating systems have to be written, grain storage space determined, passwords remembered, crop taxes calculated, robot harvesters programmed, and mink cadavers optimally excavated so as to maximise revenue.

One goal of Programmeringshøst is to help you to achieve mastery of basic programming and problem-solving skills. You accomplish this by solving a small task every day. Every task gives between 1 and 100 points, and the tasks are simple enough that every participant is expected to be able to harvest points every day. However, some tasks include very challenging parts – very few participants are expected to harvest the full 2000 points.

You are encouraged to discuss today’s task with your fellow students. This can happen while physically at ITU, for instance over a cup of morning coffee at Cafe Analog. Alternatively, meet up on the MS Teams channel »Langgården« and ask questions or ask for help. After 24 hours, when everybody else has had a chance to solve the task by themselves, you are invited to share your solution, whether to invite feedback, show off some different approaches, or just because you’re proud.
