For the past few years, the attention to the ethical problems of AI has been gaining traction in academic, industrial, and political contexts. From the ways in which data is abused to create echo chambers to the dangers of face recognition and other automated systems of control, AI has become a hot topic for ethical reflection and debate. Most of the ways of addressing AI have focused on regulation, fairness, or transparency. In this session we will take a step back, and instead of trying to find ethical solutions to the use of AI, we will ask a more fundamental and consciously polemic question: Can AI be ethical?
