Abstract

Cyberattacks, true or alleged, erode trust. No other critical infrastructure sector is affected more by this than government. Elections, the heart of democracy, are built on trust: Elections must be credible and accepted by winners and losers alike, votes must be private and reflect the will of people. If the public loses confidence in the electoral process, what have we got? All countries are challenged, established democracies as well as evolving and post-conflict countries.

In my inaugural lecture, I explore the connection between mathematics, technology and the social contract on which digital democracies are built.

After the lecture, there will be a reception.
